DEWALT DWE7491RS 10-Inch Jobsite Table Saw Review

If you work with wood for any reason, you know that a good table saw can make the difference between success and failure. This is especially important if you are a professional that makes a living building things out of wood.

The problem is that choosing a good table saw, preferably a portable one, is pretty hard. There are so many options out there. Which one do you choose? Well, we have a pretty good option here today, and it is the DEWALT DWE7491RS 10-Inch Jobsite Table Saw.

Let’s not waste any more time and talk about why this definitely a good option to keep in mind.

What To Consider Before Buying A Portable Table Saw

Portable table saws, while not the most expensive power tool out there, is still going to cost you a pretty penny. So, there are definitely a few vital aspects and features to keep in mind before you make your purchase. You want the most bang for your buck, and we are here to help you get that bang.

Power

The primary and really the only use for a table saw is cutting, which is probably a little obvious. However, beginners sometimes don’t look at things like RPM and amps, both which are quite important.

You need to look for a table saw that has enough power to handle the projects and jobs you will be working on. For example, big and thick pieces of hardwood are going to be difficult to cut with a 10 amp 3,800 RPM table saw, but a 15 amp table saw with closer to 5,000 blade rotations per minute will not have any issue with it.

You need to keep in mind what you are going to be doing with the saw when deciding how much power it needs to be able to provide you with.

Cutting Depth

Another aspect to keep in mind is how deep the table saw in question can cut. If you are a hobbyist working from home, something like a 3-inch cutting depth might do you just fine.

However, if you are a big time contractor, you might want to get yourself a table saw that has closer to a 3.5 or even 4-inch cutting depth. The bigger the materials are, the deeper your table saw must be able to cut, something which once again only you can really decide.

Ripping Capacity/Space

The space and ripping capacity that a table saw provide you with is also very important. Just like with the power and cutting depth, the saw you get, will depend on your personal needs.

If you are only going to be working on smaller projects, a table saw with a 25-inch ripping capacity will probably do just fine. However, bigger projects require more room so you might want to look for a table saw that has a ripping capacity of 30 inches or more.

Some portable table saws do come with telescoping fences and extension wings which can help extend the ripping capacity, but that also means a higher price point.

The Fence & Miter

You are definitely going to want to buy a table saw that has both a nice miter gauge and a reliable fence.

Chances are that you are going to be using the table saw for making all sorts of cross cuts, which are cuts that require a good miter. When looking at miter gauges, you want one that has a wide range of motion in both directions, is fairly solid, easy to adjust, and can be removed or replaced with something else when the time calls for it.

You also need a good fence for ripping pieces of wood down to size. Things like a telescopic or rack and pinion fences are good options to consider.

The main things to look out for here are that you get a fence that is straight, that can easily be adjusted, that is quick to align with the blade, and locks down securely into place.

Safety Features

Table saws are dangerous tools, so you want to make sure to have a few safety features on the one you get.

Things like anti-kickback pawls, splitters, and riving knives are all great safety feature’s that will prevent injuries. Also, a nice blade guard, a safety ON/OFF switch, a rocker switch, and even a basic push stick are all good additions for any table saw.

Portability

We are talking about portable table saws here, so you want to look for one that is compact, lightweight, and easy to move around.

Keep in mind that a smaller and lighter saw does usually mean less durability, less room to work with, and less power too. Your best option is to find a good mix of both. Of course, a good folding stand that also has wheels and a handle for pulling is ideal.

A nice table saw that comes with a folding transportation cart/stand is definitely the ideal. There is always a bit of a tradeoff between size and other functions, so just keep that in mind.

Dust Collection

A good thing to have with any table saw is a dust collection port. Now, many portable table saws will not come with a full dust collection system, but they do come with a dust port where one can be connected.

This is a good thing to look out for, especially when it comes time to clean up X pounds of sawdust.

Storage

Some onboard storage on any table saw is always nice too. It just makes it a lot easier when you can store accessories on the saw itself instead of having to carry those around separately from the table saw.

the DEWALT DWE7491RS 10-Inch Jobsite Table Saw has a great number of features which everybody can appreciate. So, let’s take a little time to talk about these features in greater detail.

Portability – One of the biggest benefits that you are going to get out of the DEWALT DWE7491RS 10-Inch Jobsite Table Saw is that it is very portable. The fact that this particular saw is not too heavy (slightly over 90 pounds) and does not take up too much space is great for anyone who is always on the go, needs to fit it in a packed truck, or needs to store it in a small space.

Its low weight and fairly small size make it quite maneuverable, which is also thanks to the fence system which can be compacted easily. Moreover, the fact that the DEWALT DWE7491RS 10-Inch Jobsite Table Saw comes with a very stable folding stand is yet another bonus. This completely removes then need for you to find a strong, stable, and flat surface every time you set it up at a new site. Simply unfold the cart/stand and you are good to go.

The reason why we really like this stand is not only because it is very durable, stable, and convenient, but also because it comes with wheels and a pulling handle. The wheels are jobsite friendly, large, they roll well, and when combined with the handle, they provide for a really easy way to haul the DEWALT DWE7491RS 10-Inch Jobsite Table Saw around and opposed to having to carry it.

The Rip Fence & Rip Capacity

– Something that you will like about the DEWALT DWE7491RS 10-Inch Jobsite Table Saw is that it has a pretty decent ripping capacity. It may not have more capacity than all table saws out there, especially larger stationary ones, but for a compact jobsite table saw, having 32.5 inches of ripping capacity is definitely useful.

The table itself is fairly large and can accommodate some pretty big planks, boards, and pieces of plywood, which does make it a good option for jobsites. This is beside the fact that the table is not the best quality and prone to scratching. Anyway, the fence is a rack and pinion fence, which means that it is very easy to adjust on the fly, plus it locks down securely into place with barely any issue at all. It really does help provide you with an extremely accurate cut and rip.

There is also the fact that the fence can be flipped around and used for very narrow rips, which is something that most saws just can’t do. What you will also like is the solid extension feature, which makes cutting really wide pieces much easier and safer. This solid piece is designed to offer you optimal bottom-up support while working on those large pieces.

The Cut – Power & Depth – Yet another thing that is quite impressive about the DEWALT DWE7491RS 10-Inch Jobsite Table Saw is that while it may be small, it still provides you with a whole lot of power. The 15 amp motor that the DEWALT DWE7491RS 10-Inch Jobsite Table Saw is more than powerful enough to get through some really thick and hard materials with ease, like a hot knife through butter.

With a blade rotation speed of 4,800 rounds per minute, the DEWALT DWE7491RS 10-Inch Jobsite Table Saw will make quick work out of hardwood. In terms of the cutting depth, for a portable jobsite saw, the DEWALT DWE7491RS 10-Inch Jobsite Table Saw is also fairly impressive. At a 90 degree angle, this saw can cut through materials as thick as 3 – 1/8 inches, and at 45 degrees it can cut through 2 -1/4 inches. This is a better cutting depth than most other portable jobsite table saws.

Dust Collection Capabilities – We also like the fact that the DEWALT DWE7491RS 10-Inch Jobsite Table Saw has a 2-inch dust port. No, it does not come with a full dust collection unit, but the whole does allow you to attach a 2-inch sawdust vacuum hose. This is beneficial because it makes cleanup time a lot simpler and faster.

Onboard Storage – Yet another feature that you will appreciate about the DEWALT DWE7491RS 10-Inch Jobsite Table Saw is that it comes with a good amount of onboard storage. On this particular table saw, you can store the blade, miter gauge, push stick, and various other items too. It makes it really convenient because you don’t need something like an extra toolbox or duffle bag to carry around the accessories for the DEWALT DWE7491RS 10-Inch Jobsite Table Saw.

Some Safety Features – The DEWALT DWE7491RS 10-Inch Jobsite Table Saw does not come with the most safety features, but some are included none the less. With the DEWALT DWE7491RS 10-Inch Jobsite Table Saw, you get a nice transparent blade guard. This is a good alternative to go with, one that is fairly similar to the DEWALT Jobsite Table Saw.

This model by Delta Power Tools is a little cheaper than the DEWALT, which is because it does have some less features and functionality, but overall it is still a great piece of equipment.

Surprisingly the Delta Power Tools Portable Table saw does have about the same RPM and power output as the DEWALT model, which is quite impressive considering its price.

Both of these models also come with a folding stand and cart for portability. However, this Delta Power Tools model does have a couple less safety features, and it does not have the rack and pinion fence either. The DEWALT model also has a slightly better table top.

This portable table saw option by Genesis is going to cost you several hundred dollars less than the DEWALT model that we talked about above. Keep in mind that while the Genesis 10 inch Table Saw is still a great option to go with, it does have some drawbacks when compared to the DEWALT model.

For one, the Genesis Table Saw has much less ripping capacity, plus it cannot cut into materials as deep as the DEWALT can.

Furthermore, this Genesis Table Saw model only has a stand, one that cannot fold down, as opposed to the DEWALT Table Saw model which comes with a convenient folding stand that has wheels and a handle for easy transportation.

Surprisingly enough, however, this Genesis Table Saw delivers just as much RPM as the DEWALT model we reviewed above.

This portable table saw model by SKIL is also a few hundred bucks cheaper than the DEWALT model we talked about above.

This SKIL Table Saw does come with its own heavy duty stand, but it does not fold down nearly as compact as the DEWALT stand, nor does it have wheels and a handle for easy transportation.

Both of these table saws have a nice aluminum table, but the DEWALT does have more ripping capacity. This is offset somewhat by the extension wing the SKIL Table Saw comes with, which does extend the ripping capacity of it.

Both of these machines have about the same power output and cutting depth, but there is a bit of a quality difference. There is just no denying that DEWALT is a synonym for quality.
